What is Matter?
Matter is an open-source, royalty-free connectivity standard spearheaded by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA). It runs atop IPv6 and Thread (for low-power devices) or Wi-Fi/Ethernet for mains-powered hubs, giving you a single protocol that Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings all speak natively.
Why It Matters (no pun intended)
Before Matter, buying a smart bulb meant checking a compatibility matrix. Matter collapses that matrix to one question: does it have the Matter logo?
